I just changed my battery in my bmw 740il. the battery light is still on do i need to leave the car running?

i changed my battery in my 2001 740il but my battery light is still on. do i need to run my car intill it turns off or is there a way to reset it.I just changed my battery in my bmw 740il. the battery light is still on do i need to leave the car running? There is no %26quot;reset tool%26quot; to turn off a battery light. If you run your car to turn off the light, you will most likely drain your new battery. The light is telling you your battery is not being sufficiently charged while the the engine is running. The icon is battery-shaped because if it was alternator-shaped, you would not know what it meant.

Have your vehicle inspected by a qualified repair facility. You most likely have an undercharging alternator.

Unhook the cables for 30 sec. This should reprogram the computer...

ugh obviously the battery wasn't the cause of the light coming on or the light would be out, id take it to a reputable repair facility and get it properly diagnosed rather than just throwing parts (battery) at it hoping for an inexpensive fix.
if it dies on you, then chancer are you need a new alternator... obviously it's starting, so the starter must be ok... good luck
you may have a bad alternator or belt, check those out, good luck!
usually the way to reset a car (nowdays eveerything is computers )is disconecting the battery;so if you just exchange for a new one ;seems to be your alternator wich is no given enough juice.

P.s:i hope that you did'nt went cheap and got a inexpensive battery.
If the light is still on you need to take the car to autozone and get the charging system checked out (free) as it sounds like the alternator is bad.
Wow, you have a 7 series, and I don't, I hate you.

:)

Sorry I don't have an answer for you though.
you have to reset it with the reset tool.
