Could be one of a couple things. The radio, especially if it's a factory installed deck, could have a theft deterrent system on it that locks it out when power is disconnected. Check the owners manual for information on this. It could also be that when he disconnected the battery and reconnected that a power spike caused a fuse to blow. This would be especially likely if it was an aftermarket radio that probably has an inline fuse on the power lead.



One other rare but possible cause is if he disconnected the battery by removing the positive cable first or reconnected by attaching the negative cable first. The negative cable should always be the first off and last on. In some rare instances, doing it in the wrong order can cause odd current paths within electronic devices that can damage the equipment.
