When is the right time to change your car's battery?

My car is about 4陆 years old. So far I have never had a problem getting it to start, but I'm wondering if I should think about getting a new one before winter.

Please spare me any snarky comments like %26quot;before it dies%26quot;.When is the right time to change your car's battery? You have some good answers already. Before the battery dies it will get weak. So as soon as you notice that the battery is not turning over as quickly as it normally does, then change it. Most likely it will be a cold morning, as batteries lose voltage as the temp drops.

Going to an auto parts store and having the free battery load test is a good idea.

When you do decide to purchase a new one, look at the CCA rating on the battery of your choice. That is the Cold Cranking Amps rating and tells you how much power the battery will put to the starter.

Good luck with it.

Good idea. You don't want it to fail to start when you need it to.

They last 3-5 years +/-
When is the right time to change your car's battery?
every 4 years or so , change it
Is 'when it dies' snarky? Seriously, if you're really worried, get a service centre to check it, if not, use it till it dies and then get another.
generally batteries are designed to last 5 years. most DO NOT! at any shop and even some parts stores like pep boys or advance auto they can test your battery ( some for free ). what they will do is measure its voltage, and put it under a %26quot;load test%26quot;. however, be advised, it can pass these tests today, and go kaput tomarow! batteries are not an exact science. even in todays era of technology. NO ONE can make a truely good battery yet! NO ONE! so, if your car is already 4.5 years old, and its still on the original battery, chances are your about due for a new one. dont forget to have your altenator/generator checked aswell. and the belt that drives it! give your cables and wiring a good looking over too as these are just as important as the battery itself. the battery can be brand new, but a faulty cable will leave you sitting just as easy as a dead battery! fyi: even buying a new battery doesnt gaurantee anything.... meaning, how long did it sit on that shelf before you bought it! make sure you get a battery that has a pro rated return policy! you buy a 5 year battery, you get 3 years out of it, they owe you 2 years off the price of its replacement!!!!!!! keep your reciept!!!
George Is 100 Percent Correct... If Your That Worried About The Battery Bring Your Car Into The Parts Store Like Auto Zone And Ask Them To Check Your Charging System (Normally A Free Service). They Will Do All Of The Work, You Just Kick Back And Observe And Ask Questions If You Really Want To Know What It Is That They Are Doing.

As Far As The Life Of The Battery Goes... I Have Seen Them Last As Long As Ten Years If Properly Maintained, And As Little As Six Months (Improper Usage). Good Luck
Suggest that after about 5 years , have a free battery performance test completed about once a year.
A Battery is very important. Usually it pays to pay a little extra to get one with a better guarantee.

As an example. Wal-mart has one with a 6 year 2 year free replacement and a 9 year with a 3 year free replacement for about $12 more.

Have had batteries last 10 years and some last 2 years. It does not seem that the real expensive ones such as some Sears and the Optima brands are any more dependable?
I'd wait for it to die. I got 5 years out of mine.
