once you put the new battery in, be very careful how you put it in and hook it up. hook up the positive first! without the ground on the battery!!! that way if you accidentally touch the wrench to the body anywhere you will not get a spark,
The positive lead if you mixed them up, depending on the car, will go to either directly to the starter or a relay of some sort on the fender well.
Next put the Ground cable on. and it doesn't matter if you wrench touches the body anywhere. The ground cable is the one going directly to the engine somewhere, and it may have a smaller wire going to the body by the battery.
GOOD LUCK hope this helpsYou can touch the two battery posts at the same time because there is not enough voltage to push any amps through your body and out your feet into the ground. I still would not recommend touching them without gloves because they are made out of lead and you really don,t want heavy metals like lead in or on your body. Very toxic with a accumulative effect.remember to dispose of your old battery properly or you could have acid all over the place
