more often then not the battery shop service pers measure voltage when there is no load and say the voltage is proper which is incorrect.

battery voltage should not drop excessively when on load.

maybe not below 1 volt or so of its rated capacity..



to explain if the battery is weak then WITH voltage drop excess current gets drawn and battery goes down very frequently, unless car is driven more frequently and for longer distances in which case you would not come to know that the battery has become weaker.

by the way i have never known of batteries that run more than 4 to 4and half years. though having read the answers above i am quite perplexed, because battery technology was not that advanced 15 or ten years back to make such long life batteries.

better to change before it fails for safety reasons. you do not know where will it fail you. so the moment battery starts asking for charging at the battery shop , time has come to change it in practical terms. otherwise normal driving should suffice to charge the battery.

There is no given time to change a battery, take care of it and it takes care of you. I have had a battery last 10 years, the current one is now 5 years old.



Make sure that everything is switched off before starting or turning off the engine, this will prevent the battery draining. In winter when the temps hit the - try a trickle charge over night. Winter is when the battery works the hardest, as everything is used, heated windows, blowers, wipers, lights.. the lot. Turn all these off before starting and off again before stopping.

no you need not...amron is a very good battery ...when it stops working or charge doesn't stay for long u need to change or else no need...i am using amron battery for 13 years still it hasn't given me any trouble....only one thing you must not leave the car idle for more than a week.... add mineral water or battery water when the water level is low in the battery
