Bought a used car with a car alarm -- don't have remote. Went off when changing battery, can't disengage.

Pulled the plug on the horn, but the alarm protection is interfering with my being able to start the car. A mechanic has it now, but any help would be appreciated.Bought a used car with a car alarm -- don't have remote. Went off when changing battery, can't disengage. The most basic method would be to identify the concerned wires, cut them and splice in a new section that will remove and isolate the alarm from the circuit.

If this is a factory install system then you may have other elements that are not readily visible, such as connections into the car's computer module.

You already have the car in the hands of a mechanic, so he/she will be able to give you the needed information.

You might also attempt to contact the previous owner and ask about the system, and about the remote and instructions for it.

. If you bought the vehicle from a dealer, they will certainly have the contact information, but various on-line entities, such as www.carfax.com can be of great assistance in getting the specifics on your vehicle.

most aftermarket alarms have a wire spliced into the starter solenoid wire at the base of the steering column.you should have be able to cut the splied wire feeds out and hook the starter wire back up.it might also have a fuel interupt wire splice also.

if it is an aftermarket alarm..... you'll need have to either find out who made it and buy replacment remotes to use the alarm or have it completly removed...... if the alarm is a standard feature of the car from factory you will need to take it to a dealership
I bought one just like this. Usually there is a 'valet' switch that will turn the system off when you insert the key and try to start the car.

I had to actually go under the dash and disconnect all of the plugs from the module. The module is about the size of a pregnant iPod.
