Can a car battery just die with no warning!?

i drove to the office fine no warnings 15 minutes later tried to turn it on then i just heard a click and dead no lights nothing check the fuses all fine try to jump the car got all the lights back on try to start no can do took the jumper cables off the car goes dead again towed the car home changed the battery now is running fine how can this happen with no warning signs or nothing..Can a car battery just die with no warning!?Yes as sometime a battery can get a internal short due to age or defect. Even a new battery can fail this way.

It happens more often than one would think. Same basic thing happened to me, left work car started fine. got to the gas station tried to start the car, nothing, no lights radio, nothing. Batteries can and do go bad with no warning at all. Heat in the summer is the worst time for batteries going bad.
