Does changing the battery in a car effect the immobilizer?

I have just recently changed the battery in my car as it was flat, I noticed it was going flat when the central locking had stopped working (It only worked every now and then when I held the key right up to the in-fared bit). The car had started up fine with no problem before. So I changed the battery and its all fitted correctly, but the car will still not start, and the central locking will still not working even after changing the battery.

I have a theory that the %26quot;Code%26quot; for the immobiliser / central locking has been reset or forgotten by the key. Am I right in thinking this?.

Before when the immobiliser was active, the car would start up and cut out again, the immobiliser could be reset by just locking and unlocking the car. But at the moment the car just wont start.

If it is the code, is there any other way in which I can get the code reset other than a dealership? they charge a fortune!

Thanks for your time and help everyone, any replays are greatly appriciated :)Does changing the battery in a car effect the immobilizer? The key fob must be programmed to match the car's computer. When the battery in the fob dies, it erases the memory in the key itself. You must go to a dealer to have them program this.
