I have a 1992 Pontiac Firebird and changed the battery. Car wants to keep stalling when coming to a stop.?

Someone told me there is a way to reset the computer memory myself but wasn't sure how to. Something about putting it in neutral and pressing the brake, then restart it and put it in drive with foot on the brake. I don't quite understand does anyone know of this procedure so I can try it and not have to take it somewhere and pay to have it done. I have a 1992 Pontiac Firebird and changed the battery. Car wants to keep stalling when coming to a stop.?Listen to thinker

its more then likely your transmission. i have had the same problem with 3 cars over the years. take it to a mechanic and explain what is happening and if hes any good he will solve your problem in 5 seconds

sounds like an alternator problem.

start car, take off battery cable ...if car stops.then alternator is bad

if running then aint alternator.

dont sound like computer problem, but u can take it to a autozone or such n have them put it on the computer n tell u how to solve ur problem

Back then the most common way to reset the ECM was to disconnect the battery so I don think that is your problem. Plus I never heard of such a method. If the car is stalling when it鈥檚 about to stop it could be the fuel filter. Being that you have a 92 you can mark that down as a good possibility. But there is also a couple other things it could be but without knowing much about your car and the maintenance that it had received it would be hard to pin point it
Clean the battery terminals and get a new alternator. It sounds like your alt is shot.
