2002 ford taurus want start after changing battery?

battery died in the car, after i changed it, had to play with it before it would start. it's like the chip in the key, or anti theft is keeping it from working. turn the key and nothing happens , lights work fine in dash.2002 ford taurus want start after changing battery?one is battery terminal good and tight? I've seen battery connectors that are corroded and cause starting problems.

two is , you will sometimes notice a longer than normal crank on the first start after battery replacement due to it taking time for the PCM to recognize the key.. have had that happen but usually no more than about 5 seconds max. (also these cars had a issue with hard start after long time of sitting due to fuel pressure not being at the engine like it's supposed to be)

usually you turn the key on but don't start and wait to see what the theft light does... if it goes out, then PATS system is fine and you have other issues, if it flashes rapidly, you have possible key troubles or for some reason the car ain't recognizing the key

if you have other issues after this first time.. it's mechanic time...

But check the battery and terminals first as everyone says

check the power cable to the starter, it connects to the battery but also check the connections on the starter. Also their is also a fuel pump relay switch you need to reset to get fuel to the motor
check the starter the alternator and it could even be just one of the main ground wires (just needs to be cleaned possibly new) its most likely the starter though. good luck. ford starters always go bad quick. mostly if you over it. most people do that. latez!
Frist you might want check the conector to make sure the are on as tight Second if they are tight then there may be a short in the linecheck see if your ground cable is ok ckeck cables for sing of ware or cracks if this is ok then take to battery shop and have the battery it checked

Good Luck
I will try to answer your question if you answer a couple of mine. #1 Is the anti theft indicator flashig rapidly when you try to crank the vehicle? #2 Have you had any aftermarket electronics install such as an add-on alarm system? Were you in a lighting storm reciently?
