Do you have to take it to a dealership or can you do it yourself. My batter is dead and I need any new one, I would just hate to have to pay big bucks to have the dealership do it. There's two scenarios you are facing if a new battery - you either have a short or your alternator/regulator is not functioning properly.



A new, fully charged battery will slowly discharge if there's a slow drain in the system. You can measure the battery drain with a multimeter, taking into account there will be some slight drain from your ECM/radio.



If your alternator is not charging the battery, obviously this will eventually cause the battery to die, as will an alternator that appears to be putting output to the battery, but the regulator is not allowing it to put out the full charge. Again, you can test this.

Not certain that I understand ur question, but in any case, it's not the function of the starter to charge ur battery; it's the alternator's job. If ur having probs, I'd say to check the alternator.
Probably is an alternator problem. Get it checked out. It is somewhat common for the Diode Trio in an Alternator to fail. Badly shorted out batteries can cause this easily, especially if the car has a lot of miles on it.
If your battery isn't charging you need a new alternator.

Is there any other way without the extension and should it come out when I loosen 1 bolt or will it take all 3?

Plan on getting the long extension to remove it along with a can of Blaster rust solvent to spray on the bolt head.



You can replace the short bolt with a special extended jamb clip bolt from your local Ford dealership. It pays to wipe plenty of never-seize on the threads of this bolt because of potential rust from acid from the battery.

The bottom of the battery has two small fin type lookin deals on it, there should be two hold downs with one small bolt in each on each side towards the bottom of the battery.

there should be a bracket by the bottom of the battery... three bolts seem excessive but that may be it. I go buy or borrow an extension. open the package carefully maybe you can take it back if that doesn't work. but your on the right track.
There is a bolt down holder that bites into a groove on your battery this prevents it from moving around. If you loosen the bolt holing the piece of hard plastic then your battery should come free. I suggest you ask a neighbor or friend to borrow a ratchet extension, cause my %26quot;Transporter%26quot; is not working yet!
unhook the battery cables and you should have a hold down bolt on the bottom of where the battery sits at, take it out and it should lift right out.
for the price of the extension you could almost by a new battier and install it if you wear a mech perhapes you might like to go se one to get the job done wright
The battery is fixed in place for safety,just undo the fixing bolts.
It might be possible to use a screwdriver to turn a socket to remove the bolt.

It most likely is a %26quot;can't see%26quot; issue at the bottom of the battery. Near the middle of the bottom of the battery there should be a wedge shaped plastic block with a bolt going through it down into a captured nut (welded to the battery tray). Lots of rust and corrosion will hide it but its there. You do need a extension on your socket to reach it. If its badly corroded it might be rounded off or crack when you try to loosen it.

Same size battery can have different CCAs ...Cold Cranking Amps

Auto parts store can give you a battery the same size but with more power(CCAs) with the same post locations or try the battery rebuild shops...Phone book...yellow pages(Battery Doctor,Battery Medic)

Shop around thats how the rest of us keep from asking silly questions on the internet

there are some differences. top/side post. which side the terminals are located(to your wires will be to short if you reverse them) and cold cranking amps and voltage requirements for your vehicle. second, makes no difference where you live AC Delco is world class and backs up from no one. larger to smaller (in size) dosent matter as long as the performance standards match or excede your needs
no problem with upgrading the battery, you can have many batts as you like
If your car has room for a bigger battery you can install 1. Most times they also have stronger batteries in the same size. You want to be sure the battery has the same connections so you don;t have to change the wire terminals (lots of trouble no gain)
as long as it will fit in the battery compartment its fine.the more cold cranking amps the better
