Car Battery Question. My car won't start and I'm sure it is the battery. There is white stuff on the wires.?

Is this acid from a leak? Will just changing the battery be OK or will I have to replace the wires? Thanks.Car Battery Question. My car won't start and I'm sure it is the battery. There is white stuff on the wires.?this is just normal corrosion. you need to remove the wires cables and clean them good as well as the terminal post on the battery when you put them back on there is a good possibility it will start but if not have some one jump start it and run it for 30 to 45 minutes it should be ok.

most of the time you dont have to change the wires actually very rarely do you have to just make sure you clean the m very good befor you put the new battery in. that whits stuff is just corrosion it wont hurt unless you dont clean it off

Since you're replacing the battery, why not go ahead and replace the cables? They're not terribly expensive, and they will look SO much nicer...
All that white stuff is corrosionand build up. Try charging the battery first or a jump from another ride.Using good judgement to see if you have a good connection.
before you do anything get some boiling water and pour it on the battery connections, this will remove all that white stuff ! then when you reconnect put grease on the terminals, this will stop it happening again, this is standard proceedure in motor trade.
The white stuff on your battery terminals is normal. Its just a chemical reaction. What you should do is take some baking soda, water and a wire brush. Clean the battery, battery terminals and the terminal ends. This will make removal and installation alot easier.
First, Check to see if your Dome light works.

If the light is bright (without anything turned on) the battery is okay.

Next, with the dome light on, crank the motor. If the dome light goes out, flickers on %26amp; off, or dims to almost off, the connections are bad.

To clean them, mix some backing soda with rubbing alcohol (1 to 1) and brush off all the 'white stuff' around the cables, battery terminals %26amp; most importantly, inside the cable terminals.

Then make sure the connections are as bright metal as possible and re-connect.

Lightly spray the outside area of the terminals and posts with some WD40 to prevent future corrosion.
