How long does the car battery last?

Just wondering on how often should we change the car battery.How long does the car battery last?I've had some that lasted 6 or 7 years, others only 3 or so...pretty much you wait til the first signs of trouble, and load test yearly after three years.

It's not really a maintenance item that needs to be replaced at any particular intervals.

As long as it's operating fine, it's good to go.

However, I am always somewhat leary of a four or five year old battery - and rightfully so because sure enough, when the weather gets bitterly cold - it won't crank the engine fast enough or long enough to start it.
There is no %26quot;standard%26quot; interval for the replacement of automotive batteries because there are so many different batteries with different characteristics.



The time to replace an auto battery is when it will no longer accept and hold a charge.
Under normal use expect 6 years for a good quality battery. Is used intensively like cold weather starts (-20C.) or boosting others, 5 years and it's pretty much done for.
